Dr. Malavika S Panicker

Critical Care specialist

Dr. Malavika S Panicker is a Critical Care Specialist with a strong foundation in Pulmonary Medicine and advanced certification in critical care. Combining expertise in intensive care with specialised knowledge of respiratory medicine, she is well equipped to manage critically ill patients with complex, life-threatening conditions, particularly those involving the lungs and breathing.

She completed her MD in Pulmonary Medicine at KMCT Medical College, Kozhikode, and went on to serve as Junior Consultant Pulmonologist at Lifeline Multispeciality Hospital, Adoor. She then pursued advanced critical care training (IDCCM) at St. Gregorios Medical Mission Multispeciality Hospital, Parumala, where she independently managed medical and surgical ICU patients, including those with ventilated ARDS, sepsis, and multi-organ dysfunction. She is currently pursuing the Diploma in Asthma & Allergy at CMC Vellore, further strengthening her expertise in respiratory care.

Dr. Malavika’s critical care expertise covers mechanical ventilation and ventilator weaning, haemodynamic monitoring, central and arterial line placement, intercostal drainage, and bedside ultrasound-guided interventions. Her pulmonology background adds skills in bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy-assisted lung biopsy, pleural and lung biopsy, and pulmonary function assessment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was part of the frontline team managing severe COVID-19, ARDS, and multi-organ dysfunction in intensive care.

Complementing her clinical practice is a strong academic foundation. Her postgraduate research examined the utility of the BLUE Protocol, a bedside lung ultrasound approach, in diagnosing the cause of acute breathlessness in emergency patients, and she has presented scientific work at the Indian Chest Society Annual Conference, Calicut, and the National Pulmonology Conference (PULMOCON 2022), Varanasi, reflecting her commitment to evidence-based, high-standard critical care.
